The AWS Summit, Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) annual event and a melting pot of innovation in cloud technology, took place this year on May 15th and 16th at the “Station Berlin” event location at Gleisdreieck in Berlin, just as in previous years. Thousands of developers, IT professionals, and business leaders gathered once again to discover and discuss the latest AWS products, services, and strategies. With summer-like temperatures, this year’s attendance exceeded 10,000 visitors, especially as the event was offered free of charge thanks to generous sponsorship from exhibitors.
Engaging Keynote
Two key topics took center stage at this year’s AWS Summit. Stefan Höchbauer, Managing Director for Germany and Central Europe at AWS since last year, announced the opening of a new AWS region in Brandenburg by the end of 2025. AWS plans to invest up to €7.8 billion in the region. AWS promises to create a sovereign cloud for Europe, positioning itself alongside competitors Google and Microsoft. Already, customers can meet their stringent security, sovereignty, and data protection requirements with the existing AWS regions.
