This year, Kubernetes celebrates its tenth anniversary, and its success story, along with its impact on the cloud computing market, is impressive. This year’s European KubeCon + CloudNativeCon also set a visitor record, with over 12,500 participants heading to Paris.
In the keynote on the first day of the conference, Priyanka Sharma, CEO of the organizing body “Cloud Native Computing Foundation” (CNCF), presented the latest developments in the Kubernetes and cloud-native ecosystem. Currently, these developments are centered around the dominant theme of artificial intelligence (AI). Many AI workloads are now running in containers managed by Kubernetes. Companies can leverage NVIDIA’s AI Enterprise as a managed platform and deploy AI applications in commercial Kubernetes distributions such as Red Hat OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, Canonical Kubernetes, Mirantis Kubernetes Engine, or in the cloud with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
GPU support in Kubernetes is continually increasing, with graphics processors from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA being dynamically allocated in the cluster since Kubernetes 1.26. However, there is still significant development work to be done, particularly regarding scaling and high availability. The CNCF is already making important contributions with AI-focused projects such as Kubeflow, Ray, and KubeRay to make the operation of AI workloads in the cloud more consistent and user-friendly. At the conference, the CNCF’s AI working group presented a white paper on “Cloud Native Artificial Intelligence.”
Comprehensive Exhibition
The large exhibition area was almost spectacular, easily surpassing other vendor conferences: More than 200 providers showcased their products and services related to Kubernetes and many other CNCF projects to interested conference attendees. We had the opportunity to speak on-site with selected exhibitors to get an idea of the latest news and trends.
